The mission of the Department of Population Health and Disease Prevention is to integrate perspectives and methods from multiple disciplines to study the social, behavioral, and biological drivers of well-being across populations, including the impacts of infectious and noncommunicable diseases. We advance local and global health by training the next generation of scientists, leaders, and advocates and by translating research into interventions and practical solutions.

The Department is a focus of excellence in cross-disciplinary public health research and education at UC Irvine with disciplinary expertise in global health and biobehavioral sciences.

The Department of Population Health and Disease Prevention offers the Ph.D. in Public Health. The Ph.D. includes three focused concentrations: Biobehavioral Mechanisms of Health, Disease Prevention, and Global Health. Faculty contribute directly to the M.P.H. Program, including its concentration in Global Health, as well as the B.S. in Public Health Sciences.
