Chicano/Latino Studies, Minor
The minor in Chicano/Latino Studies provides UC Irvine students with the opportunity to explore the histories, cultures, and ethnic diversity of the Chicano/Latino diaspora. The minor is an interdisciplinary complement to any major, ideal for students seeking to deepen their understanding of Chicano/Latino issues.
In addition to satisfying the requirements for the minor, students are encouraged to take advantage of the variety of unique educational opportunities available at UCI. Opportunities like the Education Abroad Program (EAP), the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), and the Summer Program in Research and Leadership (SPIRL) allow students to gain real-world experience that complements their participation in the Chicano/Latino studies department.
Departmental Requirements
Completion of seven courses as follows:

| CHC/LAT 61 | Introduction to Chicano/Latino Studies I |
| CHC/LAT 62 | Introduction to Chicano/Latino Studies II |
| CHC/LAT 63 | Introduction to Chicano/Latino Studies III |
| B. Select three upper-division courses from CHC/LAT 101–189. | |
| C. Complete the following: | |
| SPANISH 1C | Fundamentals of Spanish 2 |
| or one additional upper-division course selected from CHC/LAT 101-189. | |

SPANISH 1C may be satisfied with 3 years of Spanish in high school, an equivalent college-level course, a score of 3, 4, or 5 on the AP Spanish exam, or a placement above 1C through the UCI Placement Exam.
Residence Requirements for the Minor: Other than the language requirement, no more than two courses taken at other academic institutions may be used toward satisfaction of the minor.
