Master of English
The Department of English sponsors a Master of English program designed for teachers, returning students, and others who would benefit from advanced training in literary history and criticism, studies in related media, and in rhetoric and composition. The Master of English is awarded to candidates who complete 36 units of graduate course work and submit an acceptable master's essay.
The Master of English plan of study comprises:
1. 32 units of primary course work, usually completed over the course of two academic calendar years or six quarters (with part-time enrollment assumed as one course per quarter) and one intervening summer session (with enrollment in three courses taught during a six-week session).
2. The completion of 4 units of thesis research course work in the sixth quarter of instruction.
3. The completion of the master's thesis essay by the end of the sixth quarter.
